Introduction to Structure Equation Models (SEM) and Measurement Theory

Monday, August 24, 2020

Prof. Petra Riefler , 24 to 28 August 2020

Content

This course provides a user-friendly introduction to:

  1. structural equations modelling (SEM) as a method
  2. LISREL as a software for estimating SEMs (Note: the course is also useful for users of other software packages)
  3. the fundamentals of reflective and formative measurement (i.e. scales)

Teaching Objectives

After participating in this course, students should be able to:

  • Understand fundamental premises of measurement theory
  • Develop new (and evaluate existing) scales for empirical research
  • Conceptualize and evaluate basic SEM models
  • Use LISREL for validating scales
  • Use LISREL for conducting substantive empirical research

Grading

  • Written assignment (75%)
  • Exercises (25%)
