Funding
There are a wide range of programs and institutions that support students with regard to internships abroad. Numerous scholarships are available to specific target groups and lots of different students. Students have the opportunity to acquire substantial funding in order to help with the costs of living abroad and thus leave them more freedom to experience at first hand what it is like to live and work in a different country.
Auslandsförderung nach dem BAföG
Internships abroad may qualify for BAföG support. Pre-requisites are, among certain other things, that the internship is undertaken as part of a student's studies. The internship must be a component of the curriculum for a program of study and must be of at least 12 weeks' duration. The internship must also correspond to the requirements of the relevant Examination Regulations ("Prüfungsordung"). European Union: Erasmus+
As part of the Erasmus+ program, funding is available for students' self-arranged industrial and research internships in the EU and in non-EU Europe. This includes all 28 Member States and their overseas territories as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, FYR Macedonia, and Turkey.

Application Requirements
The funding program is open to German and international RWTH Aachen students, irrespective of their program of study, who are resident in Germany. Students who receive funding from any other EU program are not eligible to receive funding from the Erasmus+ program.
Graduates who have only recently completed their degree program, can also undertake an internship. They must have submitted their application during their last year of studies and must have been selected. The internship abroad must be undertaken and completed within one year after the completion of their degree program.

PROMOS Scholarship
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) also offers scholarships for periods of stay abroad. DAAD offers various forms of funding opportunities in its programs. For more information, please visit the website of DAAD.
A PROMOS Scholarship
A PROMOS scholarship is available to students from all disciplines and all programs of study for self-organized periods of stay abroad in countries that are not part of the ERASMUS+ program.

Application Requirements
The target group consists of all RWTH-students who wish to spend a period in a non-European country. It is not permissible to combine this funding with funding from public funds for the same stay abroad.

Stipendienlotse des BMBF
The Stipendienlotse Database of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) currently offers students access to information on over 1,250 internship programs. Via various criteria, such as "type of scholarship" or "subject studied", students can gain first insights into the application process, requirements, and type/amount of funding available.

myStipendium.de is a non-profit organization that aims to provide everyone who needs one with a scholarship. The various scholarship programs can be viewed here.
There is now a new program availalbe offering support to students who, for various reasons, have not yet been able to achieve their full potential in their studies.
