A Festive Send-Off for Our Graduates!
In the 12 months following the last Graduation Ceremony, about 300 students have gained either a Doctoral, a Master's, or a Bachelor's degree with the School of Business and Economics. Many of these students attended the Graduation Ceremony on November 9, 2019, where they were personally congratulated by the Dean of the School, Prof. Letmathe, und the Dean of Studies, Prof. von Nitzsch.
The evening event, which was hosted by the Dean of the School, Prof. Dr. Peter Letmathe, was musically introduced and accompanied by the salon orchestra "ACHSO!”. In Professor Letmathe's welcome speech, special thanks were also given to the sponsors of the School.
Laura Voigt and Maximilian Himmler from the School's student representative body - Fachschaft - spoke on behalf of the graduates and took a look back at special events and experiences that had taken place during their studies at RWTH Aachen University.
As in previous years, the School's Award for Teaching was presented by the Student Representative Body ('Fachschaft'). The prize is awarded in two categories: academic staff members and professors.
In the first category, this year's award winner is Dr. Garnet Kasperk. The prize in the second category was awarded to Prof. Oliver Lorz.
The Dean of Studies, Prof. von Nitzsch, emphasized the great importance attached to 'good teaching' by the School and the University. Two members of the 'Fachschaft' - Mr. Maximilian Himmler and Mr. Nils Utecht - told the audience why specifically Mrs. Kasperk and Prof. Lorz had been nominated for the awards:
Dr. Garnet Kasperk is the Director of the Center for International Automobile Management (CIAM). For over 10 years, her research has focused on the strategies of the automotive and energy industries.
Especially in the context of her lecture "International Automobile Management" and the project modules "Innovative Business Model in Mobility" and "Strategies in the Field of Electromobility" in the Master's program Business Administration and Industrial Engineering she came into contact with numerous students.
Prof. Dr. Oliver Lorz has been head of the Department of International Economic Relations at RWTH Aachen University since 2004 and has been able to establish broad contact with students in the bachelor's programme of business studies, particularly through his modules "Microeconomics II" and "The Global Economy: Trade and Investment".
The fact that the teaching concepts of Dr. Kasperk and Prof. Dr. Lorz always leave a positive impression on the students is shown, among other things, by the fact that they are at the top of the surveys. Both are undoubtedly an enrichment for the School of Business and Economics and will certainly continue to offer students interesting and attractive lectures in the future.
A further highlight of the evening was the honoring of the best students of the year by Mr. Wolfgang Mainz, Chairperson of the Förderverein Wirtschaftswissenschaften Association. One doctoral graduate, two graduates of the Bachelor of Business Administration program of study and two graduates of the Master of Business Administration program were awarded prizes.
The final highlight - and the one which most of the guests had been eagerly awaiting - was when each graduate was called onto the stage individually to accept her or his degree certificate and to be congratulated by Prof. Letmathe and Prof. von Nitzsch.
