Operations Research (OR) for Sustainability: Energy, Mobility, Industry
The project Operations Research (OR) for Sustainability: Energy, Mobility, Industry at the Chair of Operations Management, headed by Prof. Grit Walther and the Chair of Energy Economics and Management , headed by Prof. Reinhard Madlener in cooperation with chairs of the University Duisburg-Essen (Prof. Jutta Geldermann) and the Ruhr-University Bochum (Prof. Valentin Bertsch) deals with the use of mathematical methods to support decision-making processes. The focus here is on the climate crisis and questions of sustainability - which are central topics of many programs of study. However, the teaching of OR methods to students is a highly demanding didactical undertaking. The project team therefore wants to develop, to implement, and to disseminate a digital teaching/learning tool "Operations Research for Sustainability". To this end, it will receive around 500,000 euros in funding.
Following completion of the project, all e-learning offerings will be posted on the federal-state portal for studies and teaching "ORCA.nrw" (Open Resources Campus NRW). "Teachers and students alike will benefit, as the offerings will be freely accessible once the projects have been completed," said the Minister for Culture and Science in North-Rhine Westphalia, Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen.
