Seit Januar 2021 ist Sandra Venghaus Professorin für Decision Analysis and Socio-economic Assessment an der RWTH Aachen. Von 2000 bis 2004 studierte sie Environmental Science and Public Policy an der Harvard Universität, promovierte in den Wirtschaftswissenschaften (Complex System Innovations) an der Leibniz Universität Hannover, bevor sie von 2009 bis 2014 als Post-Doc am Potsdam-Institut für Klimafolgenforschung tätig war. In den Jahren von 2014 bis 2020 leitete sie die von ihr aufgebaute Arbeitsgruppe zum Thema „Ethics, Sustainability and the Resource Nexus“ am Institut für Energie- und Klimaforschung (IEK-STE) des Forschungszentrums Jülich. Sie ist Koordinatorin der BioSC-Kompetenzplattform "Transform2Bio: Integrated Transformation Processes and their Regional Implementations: Structural Change from Fossil Economy to Bioeconomy".

Ihr derzeitiger Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt in der quantitativen Modellierung komplexer sozio-ökologischer Systeme mit besonderem Interesse an den Auswirkungen politischer Handlungsoptionen auf soziale, ökonomische und ökologische Parameter.
