Welcome Letter from the Dean
Dear First Year Students,
Allow me to welcome you to the School of Business and Economics at RWTH Aachen University.
You are about to embark on an exciting new stage of your life, one that will bring many invaluable learning opportunities with it. You will be experiencing many new insights and impressions and will no doubt strike up enduring friendships during your time with us. Most importantly of all, of course, you will be laying the foundation stone for your personal and career development.
Our School will provide you with the best possible learning environment to enable you to achieve your academic goals: a solid scientific foundation for you to build on and a wide array of courses for you to choose from, as well as a strongly quantitative approach, internationally oriented teaching and research, and consistent quality assurance.
The quality of our teaching is internationally accredited. AACSB – the longest-standing and most recognized international accreditation agency – has awarded our School accreditation, making us one of the currently only ten business schools in Germany to hold this recognition. In addition, our School has gained excellent results in the CHE Masterranking 2023 and CHE Hochschulranking (Centre for Higher Education (CHE) ranking). The CHE ranking is one of the most well-known and detailed ranking systems in the German-speaking world and includes data on study programs and teaching as well as assessments of universities by the students themselves. Our School was allocated to the top group in eleven indictors, which included “academic feasibility of the evaluated study programs”, “contact with students”, and “international orientation of the Bachelor and Master programs”. These results confirm our conviction that the School of Business and Economics at RWTH Aachen University is continuing along its path of success.
The excellent quality of our teaching is reflected in innovative courses, such as “Current Topics in Economics” (“Wirtschaft aktuell”), which focuses on real-world industry and business scenarios. In addition to conventional classes, you will have plenty of opportunities to take part in excursions, internships, and periods of study at universities outside Germany, which will all prepare you for the challenges that a global economy brings with it.
One key prerequisite for your academic success is, of course, your own personal engagement. Work hand-in-hand with our teaching staff by preparing for lectures and classes ahead of time and carefully reviewing your notes afterwards. Please also make use of our academic support services, which include tutorials and E-learning activities. Our School’s teaching staff, mentors, and also the “Fachschaft” – the student representative body – will be happy to talk to you, should you have any questions, suggestions, or worries.
May I now take this opportunity to wish you all the very best for your studies.
With kind regards,
Christian Grund
Dean of the School of Business and Economics
