Information on Registration Procedure for Winter Semester 2016/2017
As of the winter semester 2016/2017, registration for the mandatory seminar in the B.Sc. in Business Administration program will take the form of a 2-stage modular registration procedure.
Stage 1: Modular registration for the mandatory seminar in the B.Sc. in Business Administration program for the winter semester 2016/2017 (students indicate intention to participate so that we can plan our capacities). Proposed registration period will be from June 1, 2016 (08.00 hours) to June 10, 2016 (23.59 hours).
Stage 2: Modular registration for the mandatory seminar in the B.Sc. in Business Adminstration program for the winter semester 2016/2017 (students list their preferences). Proposed registration period will be from July 11, 2016 (08.00 hours) to July 15, 2016 (23.59 hours).

Procedure for Registering for the Mandatory Seminar
General information about the registration procedure and admission requirements
In accordance with the standard curriculum, students must take a mandatory seminar in the 4th semester. Please note that attendance is mandatory, so you must take care to organize things sufficiently far in advance so that the seminar does not come into conflict with your period of study abroad or with an internship. Some seminars are held analagously to the lectures (spread evenly over the whole course of lectures) or as a block (block seminars are sometimes held elsewhere than at RWTH Aachen University!). Since the topics of the seminars and also their form of organization vary from semester to semester, the corresponding information on them is not available until shortly before the end of the previous semester.
Registration for the mandatory seminar takes place in the last few weeks of lectures in the semester prior to the seminar.
As students have the opportunity to rank seminars in order of preference when registering, and as the topics of the seminar vary from semester to semester, information about specific seminars becomes available on the web pages of the Academic Advising Services about one week prior to the onset of the registration period.
Admission to the seminar is possible if, at the time of registering, a student can produce evidence of having gained at least 57 ECTS credit points from the mandatory section. If this is not the case, but a student can produce evidence of having gained at least 45 ECTS points, registration for the seminar can take place on the condition that the student will have gained at least 57 ECTS points by the time that the seminar begins. In such cases, in addition to registering via the online system, a form must be filled out and submitted to the Examination Board during the registration period.
Please take note of the changed registration period: for all study programs a student must have informed the relevant Chair about her or his cancellation by 2 weeks prior to the first relevant seminar date. To do so, students are asked to use the form Rücktrittsformular für Module mit didaktischer Sonderform. You will find this form in the download section.
Please keep the deadline in mind, because any later registration applications can only be granted in exceptional cases.
2-Stage Registration Procedure (New as of Winter Semester 2016/2017)
In order to coordinate supply and demand better, the new modular procedure is split into two stages. The first stage allows us to survey how many students are interested in participating in a specific seminar. Should it turn out that demand is greater than our capacities allow, priority will be given to those students who have completed stage 1 of the registration procedure (students indicate intention to participate) and who have already gained sufficient ECTS credit points in the B.Sc. in Business Administration program (modular registration stage 1).
Stage 1: Survey for capacity planning via a modular registration procedure
Although students are not obliged to take part in the survey, it is highly recommended that they do so for organizational reasons. Those students who do take part in the capacity survey (stage 1) will be given priority over non-participants at the next stage when seminar places are allocated.
The survey on intended participation in the winter semester will be implemented in the previous summer semester and vice versa.
Stage 2: Binding registration including student preferences via a central modular registration procedure (type D)
Here students have the opportunity to list their preferences for the seminars on offer. Registered students will be allocated to the seminars under consideration of these preferences. In the modular registration procedure please rank your preference for each of the seminars that the School offers. Note that "preference A" would refer to your most preferred option whereas "preference X" would mean that you are abstaining from a place in a specific seminar (this abstination would be applicable even in the case that you were not allocated a place in any other seminar!). For this reason, please be very careful with the X option and only select it if you know for sure that you will definitely not be able to attend on the obligatory-attendance dates. Should student demand for a specific seminar be too great, then places will be allocated by lot.

Deception Attempts in Seminars
IMPORTANT NOTICE: We have to point out that only the seminar details which are to be found in the display cases of the Examination Board for Business Administration and Economics (WIWI-Prüfungsausschüsse) are legally binding.
Attempts at Deception: Seminar Papers or Theses
Unfortunately, the School of Business and Economics has repeatedly come across cases where students have failed to acknowledge other people's intellectual property, particularly with regard to texts that are available on the Internet.
In this context, I should like to make the following points:
Texts that contain another person's exact wording or paraphrased lines of thinking (sentences, parts of sentences, single words) must be clearly acknowledged as that person's. This also applies for texts found on the Internet. Failure to do so constitutes an attempt at deception.
If an examiner decides that an attempt at deception has been made, a grade of 5,0 will be awarded for the examination. It is not possible for a student to then improve this grade through written seminar work.
German Legal Basis : "Versucht die Kandidatin bzw. der Kandidat, das Ergebnis einer Prüfungsleistung durch Täuschung ... zu beeinflussen, gilt die betreffende Prüfungsleistung als mit “nicht ausreichend“ (5,0) bewertet“. (§ 8 Abs. 5 Satz 1 Halbsatz 1) (Examination Regulations)
Consequences in the Case of a Repeated Offense
Any attempt at deception - as described above - will be brought to the attention of the Examination Board for Business Administration and Economics. In the case of a repeated offense, the Examination Board will decide whether the student will be disqualified from taking further examinations.
German Legal Basis : "In schwerwiegenden Fällen kann der Prüfungsausschuss die Kandidatin bzw. den Kandidaten von der Erbringung weiterer Prüfungsleistungen ausschließen.“ (§ 8 Abs. 5 Satz 4) (Examination Regulations).
