A paper entitled “Investing in Information Systems: On the Behavioral and Institutional Search Mechanisms Underpinning Hospitals’ IS Investment Decisions” has been accepted for publication in MIS Quarterly, the leading outlet for information systems research, and widely considered to be an A+ journal. The paper has been co-authored by Torsten-Oliver Salge (RWTH Aachen University), Rajiv Kohli (College of William & Mary), and Michael Barrett (University of Cambridge). In their study, the authors integrate arguments from institutional theory and the behavioral theory of the firm to develop and validate a holistic model of the motives underpinning senior managers' decisions to allocate scarce resources to IS. The insights offered by this study add to our understanding of IT resource allocation processes and provide valuable stimuli on how to expand the agenda of IS-payoff research.
