Profile

Maria Movsessian joined the School of Business and Economics in August 2022 as Professor for Energy Management in Developing Countries. Professor Movsessian gained her doctoral degree at Flensburg’s Europa-Universität (EUF) on a Reiner Lemoine Foundation scholarship. Subsequently, she worked as a researcher at the University of Edinburgh in the Policy and Innovation Group, which focuses on techno-economic and socio-ecological analyses of innovative offshore technologies for renewable energy systems. Before coming to RWTH Aachen University, Professor Movsessian coordinated the Master’s degree program “Energy and Environmental Management – Developing Countries” at the Europa-Universität in Flensburg.

Professor Movsessian’s research and teaching addresses 100% renewable energy systems, energy justice, and energy democracy. She is particularly involved in exploring potential synergies between the different energy sectors by using a smart energy systems approach. This approach is intended to facilitate a fair energy transition and the achieving of sustainable development goals in the Global South.
