Grit Walther was born in 1974. Since September 2012, she has been Professor of Operations Management at RWTH Aachen University. Following her geoecology studies (enironmental sciences) at the University of Braunschweig, she went on to study production and logistics there, gaining her doctoral degree in 2004. At the University's Institute of Automotive Management and Industrial Production, she founded a research group on "Sustainable Supply Chain Management" and was head of this group from 2004 to 2009. She also chose the topic of "Sustainable Supply Chains" as the subject of her post-doctoral Habilitation thesis, receiving her Habilitation degree in 2009. In the 2 years prior to taking up the appointment with RWTH Aachen University, Grit Walther was holder of the Chair of Production and Logistics at the University of Wuppertal.

Research activities in the Chair of Operations Management center around the application-oriented, techno-economic modeling and evaluation of logistics and production networks as well as supply chains. Four different research concentrations - network management, resource management, sustainable mobility systems, and impact assessment - develop innovative solutions via interdisciplinary collaboration with research institutes and industrial partners in contract research projects or third-party funded projects from the public sector.

Grit Walther is a member of RWTH Aachen University's Strategy Board, and she also heads the Scientific Commission on Sustainability Management of the German Academic Association for Business Research. Grit Walther is also a coordination member of the EURO Working Group on Sustainable Supply Chains.

Prof. Grit Walther is the Chairperson of the Center of Excellence "Sustainability Management" of the VHB - the German Academic Association for Business Research since 2014. Prof. Walther will hold this honorary post for 2 years.
