As an international student (incoming student), you are obviously going to have plenty of questions regarding Aachen. Not only information about the University itself, but also about student life, money issues, jobs, and finding somewhere to live is very important for a period of study abroad and will help to ensure that your stay in Aachen is a success.
We provide a Booklet for Incoming Students, which will assist you when you're preparing for your studies with the School of Business and Economics at RWTH Aachen University by explaining those academic aspects of your stay with which you should familiarize yourself in advance.
Should you not find an answer to your particular query in the booklet, then please get in touch with us personally or send us an email. Your query will be dealt with immediately.
When do I have to arrive in Aachen and when do the exams take place?
Please make sure that you arrive in time for your personal enrollment appointment and for the start of the semester in Aachen. The enrollment appointments will be sent to you via email by our central International Office.
Please pay attention to our semester dates when planning your stay:
October 1 to March 31
- Lecture period: beginning of October to the beginning of February
- Exam period: beginning of February to the end of March
April 1 to September 30
- Lecture period: mid-April to the end of July
- Exam period: end of July to the end of September
What is the difference between the Exchange Office and the International Office?
is responsible for all general matters concerning your Stay Abroad. They will help you get off to a good start by providing essential information about life in Aachen and studying at RWTH Aachen, through a wide range of services, such as the Orientation Days and the BeBuddy program.

Where can I find information about courses offered at the School of Business and Economics?
A list of all courses, which are taught at the School of Business and Economics, can be found in our Booklet. You can click on the different course titles to get more information about them (course description, lecture dates and places...)
Please note that our School offers a lot of courses which have limited participation. Therefore course attendance cannot be guaranteed.
How can I register for language courses at RWTH Aachen University?
The RWTH Language Center offers German and other language courses that prepare you for studies. Please take a look at the Language Center website for current information about courses and the registration process.
Participants in German courses can be enrolled as RWTH Aachen students while taking the German course. Application German Language Course.
What is the Orientation Day?
The Welcome Days/the Orientation Day are a special welcome service for all new international students. These events will provide you with the essential information required to get off to the right start in Aachen and with your studies at RWTH Aachen.

Can I write my thesis at RWTH Aachen University?
It is possible to write a thesis abroad, but international students must personally take steps to secure themselves a thesis advisor at a Chair of their choice. It is also imperative that this has also been arranged with a student’s home university.
